A Guide to Unpacking After Moving Home to Islington
Moving into a new home in Islington is an exciting process, but it’s easy to overlook the importance of organised unpacking after you arrive. It’s easy to get caught up in the process of moving out without having planned for the moving in, which can be the last thing you want to do after the stress of relocating. Below are some tips to help the unpacking process run smoothly, allowing you to get settled in as quickly as possible.
Label Boxes
The importance of this can’t be overlooked, and it will save you lots of time in the long run. This is something that can be planned before you even move. Firstly, make sure you have a good selection of boxes and containers for all your items, and be sure to label each one as you pack it (‘clothes’, ‘kitchen’ etc). Ask your removal company to keep all boxed of the same type together, all the boxes labelled ‘bedroom’ should be kept together where possible, for example. This way, when you unpack, you can take the right things to the right rooms straight away, which saves rummaging through boxes full of mixed up items that all go in different places.
Have a plan
Perhaps when you first viewed your new home in Islington, N1, you had ideas about how you might arrange the rooms and make the space your own. It’s a good idea to write these ideas down, even if you change them later, as having a basic idea of where things are going to go can save you lots of time and energy. This is especially true for heavier goods, like wardrobes and drawers. Make sure you have an idea where you want them to save hauling things up stairs unnecessarily.
Unpack essentials first
When labelling your boxes, be sure to put any goods that you will need immediately in a special box (you could label this ‘unpack first’ or ‘essentials’), and unpack these first. This way, you will have all your essentials available so you can get settled in before tackling the rest of the unpacking in your new place in the NW1 region. Things that are useful to include might be computers, telephones, bathroom items (toothbrush, towels etc.), a kettle, toaster, microwave, a change of clothes, and so on.
Get the heavy things out the way
After the essentials, all your heavy goods should be unpacked first, as these require a lot of effort, and are normally the last thing you want to be doing after unpacking everything else. Getting your heavy items in place, based on your plan, means the nasty part is out of the way as soon as possible, leaving you to unpack the easier items and take your time.
Rome wasn’t built in a day
Moving to Islington can be very tiring, and after unpacking the basics and heavy goods, you are likely to be worn out. There’s no harm in stopping for the day and getting some rest, trying to unpack everything on the day of your move to N1 is unrealistic, and may lead to rushed unpacking which creates more work later. It’s preferable to take your time – once your essentials are available, you’ll have everything you need to tackle the unpacking at your own pace, while enjoying your new home.
Keep your boxes!
Finally, don’t forget to keep hold of the boxes you used. Should you move again, these will save you loads of time, as they are already labelled and you know they can hold all the things you moved in with.
